Rumours such as the Mop moving to the Race Course, being cancelled, only happening one weekend, causing power cuts in the town centre, being the scene of a stabbing, having rigged games and causing shop keepers to lose millions are all false.  

Showmen and women run small businesses which move on a regular basis to different fairground sites around the country. The Showmen’s Guild acts as a national regulatory body for the showmen and women, who must be members to attend the Mop. This area is covered by the Midland Section of the Guild.
